The pyramids of Egypt are the most iconic structures in the world and have fascinated travelers for thousands of years. The most famous of these pyramids are the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Menkaure, which are located on the Giza Plateau just outside of Cairo. No more description is needed I think. Getting There: The pyramids of Giza are located on the outskirts of Cairo and are easily accessible by car, taxi, or public transportation. If you're staying in Cairo then you can take a taxi to the pyramids which should take around 30 minutes. If you're looking to save some money, you can take a public bus or the metro to the pyramids. The metro is the quickest and cheapest option but it can be crowded during peak hours. Things to See and Do: - The Great Pyramid of Giza, also known as the Pyramid of Khufu: They are the oldest and largest of the pyramids. It was built during the reign of Pharaoh Khufu and estimated to have taken around 20 years to complete. - The Pyramid of Khafre, also known as the Pyramid of Chephren: It is the second-largest pyramid on the Giza Plateau. It was built during the reign of Pharaoh Khafre and is slightly smaller than the Great Pyramid. - The Sphinx: It guards and stands at the base of the pyramid. The Sphinx is a statue of a lion with a human head and is considered one of the most famous statues in the world. - The Pyramid of Menkaure, also known as the Pyramid of Mykerinos: It is the smallest of the three pyramids. The pyramid is notable for its smooth limestone casing which is now mostly missing. When to Visit: The best time to visit the pyramids of Egypt is between October and April, when the weather is cooler and more pleasant. During the summer months temperatures can reach up to 40°C, making it extremely hot and uncomfortable. It's also worth avoiding the pyramids during the peak tourist season, which is from June to September, as the crowds can be overwhelming. Tips: - Dress appropriately: As it's a religious site. Women should cover their arms and legs, and men should avoid wearing shorts. - Hydrate: Bring plenty of water as the heat can be intense. - Get a guide: A local guide can help you understand the history and significance of the pyramids and answer any questions you may have.
